UB Center for the Arts

The Center For The Arts has a wide variety of venues:

Atrium
A spectacular two-story Atrium Lobby, topped by a vaulted skylight, establishes a dramatic first impression for visitors to the Center for the Arts. It can accomodate a standing reception for up to 2,000 people, or seat 400 for an elegant dinner. The skylight and glass walls make the Atrium a room with a view of the sky above or Lake LaSalle beyond.

Mainstage Theatre
The Center's 1,744-seat Mainstage is the largest of the building's four theatres. The Mainstage is unique not only for its outstanding facilities, but also for the niche it fills in existing area production space. This space is available for major theatrical productions, operas, concerts, musicals, dance presentations, and lectures.

Special features include: A full, movable proscenium; Tunable walls for superb computer-controlled acoustics; Impressive, state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems; A custom built, portable orchestra shell that allows for stage concerts without speakers or microphones; Seventy line sets; Enormous 106 ft. wide x 48 ft. deep stage

Drama Theatre
The "warm" 400-seat Drama Theatre is done in moss green with cherry wood accents. This intimate space is ideal for plays, musicals, chamber orchestras, dance presentations, and performances by touring companies, with an adjustable-width proscenium, 40 line-sets, a fully trapped stage, and an orchestra pit for 40 musicians. It's an ideal setting for creating synergy between audience and performer. Each seat offers a spectacular view.

Black Box Theatre
For those who aspire to a create-it-yourself aesthetic, the Black Box and Rehearsal Workshop Theatres allow just that. These two theatres can accomodate up to 175 seats in any configuration, providing flexible space for avant-garde productions, experimental theatre, music, and multimedia productions.

Screening Room
The 210-seat Screening Room is available for motion picture screenings and film festivals, as well as video arts productions, speakers and panel discussions, poetry readings, and press conferences. The projection booth has 35 mm as well as 16 mm film capability that includes surround-sound, along with a state-of-the-art video projection system for 3/4", SVHS, VHS, and DVD. A dual slide projection room has full remote capability.
