The Daily Show: After The Cut featuring Jon Stewart

Finalist in Featurette or Behind The Scenes Video

Objective

The Daily Show’s behind-the-scenes social series, After The Cut, gives our fans a unique look into their favorite late-night show. Filmed during a Q&A portion with our live audience, the series features Jon Stewart and our News Team addressing questions related to the state of the world, their personal biographies, life lessons, and more. Often funny and always insightful, After The Cut gives fans both in the studio and on our social channels an opportunity to connect with the News Team on a more authentic level.

In this video, Jon Stewart is asked a powerful question by a young audience member who feels resigned to the limitations of the 2024 presidential candidates. Jon’s response is honest, uplifting, and, as always, hilarious.

Strategy

During taping, Jon Stewart and The Daily Show’s News Team take the time to answer questions from our live studio audience. These questions are captured on set and the footage is later reviewed by producers and the social media team for potential content opportunities. If selected, the content will be lightly edited so that it is optimized for social media channels.

In this particular video, not only is the question important and Jon’s response valuable, but the transference of wisdom from one generation to another is meaningful. We felt that this video would be especially well received on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where we have a younger audience who is being newly introduced to Jon Stewart’s thoughtful brand of comedy.

Results

While the After The Cut series performs extremely well across channels, this episode, in particular, really resonated with our audiences. As expected, it over-performed on TikTok and Instagram, engaging younger viewers. The video drove 6.7M views and 480K engagements across platforms.
