This magnificent church was built by Huber & Co. in 1890 to accommodate the growing
Polish Emigrant population that established the St. Adalbert Parish in 1886. The
Brick structure is Romanesque in design. At the time it was the largest church
in Western New York. In
1907 it was marked with a distinctive event. His holiness Pope Pius X, by an authenticated
document, adjourned the Basilica of St. Adalbert's to St. Peter's Basilica in
Rome. The
interior of the Basilica displays beautiful marble alters, stained glass windows,
hand carved wood artifacts from the beginning of the church and the Pan-Am exhibition.
St.
Aldalbert's is the oldest Basilica on the East Coast and a "must see" in Western
New York. |
