The
Rich-Twinn Octagon House, built in 1849, is architecturally significant as a rare
and extremely early surviving example of the Octagon mode of living in Western
New York. It is the only example of its type in Erie County.
The
house, operating as a museum is one of the most distinguished examples of nineteenth
century architecture in Akron. The dwelling was built by Charles B. Rich, one
of Akron's foremost nineteenth century citizens, as a wedding gift for his new
bride.
The
house is owned by The Newstead Historical Society and has the prestigious honor
of being listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
