Begun by France in 1726 on the site of earlier French Forts, later controlled by Britain and the United States and supporting a military presence even today,

Fort Niagara presents a unique and exciting historical panorama: the evolution of a major North American fortress over more than three centuries. Old Fort Niagara is a National Historic Landmark and New York State Historical Site.
