In March 1991, the Members of the BME Church in Niagara Falls were pleased to
open a Black History Library dedicated to the memory of Mrs. Norval Johnson. Mrs.
Johnson was a lady who spent nearly 50 years serving the community of Niagara
Falls. Young people were her "special projects" and she enjoyed many years teaching
music and the Sunday School choir. She was an untiring worker and at times single-handedly
kept the Church operating. Mrs. Johnson was also a valued member of the Cancer
Society of Niagara devoting many volunteer hours to the cause. The
Norval Johnson Heritage Library of Black History is a full-lending library containing
over 1,000 volumes that provide valuable information concerning the history of
the Black community in Canada, United States, Caribbean, Africa and England. Norval

exciting new component of The Norval Johnson Heritage Library is the development
of a genealogical base enabling people to trace their family history. The library
continues to collect information and artifacts which will continue to tell the
story of the valuable contributions escaped slaves and their descendants made
towards the building of Canada. |
