| The
Niagara Arts and Cultural Center, is one of the neswest art destinations in Western
New York. Situated in the 1924 Classic Revival building and located less than
a mile from Niagara Falls, the NACC is home to over seventy five visual and performing
artists. The
multi-faceted Mission of the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center (the NACC) includes:
offering on-going arts and cultural education to the community; serving as viable
cultural tourism destination, preservation and full utilization of our historic,
landmark building; providing affordable studio and office space to area artists
and arts groups; making a wide variety of artistic and cultural presentations
accessible to the community; and, serving as a gathering place for community events
and groups. In
less than three years, the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center has gone from dream
to vibrant reality. Today, in it's fifth year of operation, the NACC is NY State's
largest gathering of artists under one roof outside of metro New York. In
addition to its artists in residence, the NACC is also home to two theaters, two
art galleries, an interactive children's center - NICE for Kids, and a Niagara
Falls High School alumni center NACC galleries host wide-ranging and ever-changing
exhibitions, while our theaters regularly feature a broad variety of musical,
theatrical and dance activities. As an education center, the NACC's role continues
to grow. Many NACC artists regularly offer classes to the public. Now,
as a 21st Century Community Learning Center, the NACC offers a broad array of
art, music and dance classes to area middle and high school students both after
school and throughout the summer. Designated
as an historic building, you can tour an architectural gem and visit our art galleries
and artists in their studios. Designed
by William Ittner and built in 1924, this classic revival building served as Niagara
Falls' central high school until 2000, when it was replaced by a new high school
building.Ê Slated for demolition, the NACC was rescued by a grassroots community
coalition, Save Our Sites in Niagara Falls, Inc. Today
the 166,000 sq. foot building is on both the Federal and NY State Registries of
Historic Buildings. |
