Moody's — The Infinite Game

Objective

Moody’s set out to make a Netflix-style docuseries that would shine a spotlight on the real world impact of Moody’s financial crime compliance and third party risk management business; a strategic priority for cross-sell; bringing to life the human impact of crimes such as money laundering and fraud, and our purpose. We sought to position Moody’s as the go-to thought leader on compliance and third-party risk, as part of the evolution of the Moody’s brand, which was relaunched for the first time in 115 years. 

We are pleased to present The Infinite Game: Inside the constantly evolving global battle with financial crime. Financial crime and the organizations that seek to combat it are caught in a never-ending cat and mouse game marked by ever-evolving criminal tactics, hidden human costs, and the relentless drive to stop them. This series sheds light on the connections that exist between the criminal world and the organizations and governments that seek to prevent crimes such as money laundering, fraud and modern slavery. The docu-series was developed to show how Moody's can help customers navigate this world of exponential risk with the help of partnerships and technological solutions that necessitate ongoing collaboration and invention. 

Strategy

The Moody's StoryLab is a team of in-house writers, animators, filmmakers and storytellers, dedicated to bringing Moody's expertise and intelligence to new audiences. Using documentary film, animation, podcasts and data visualization, StoryLab utilizes dynamic storytelling techniques to explore the uncertainties and inter-connections of an Exponential Risk world. Our work differentiates Moody’s as a bold and perceptive thought-leader, crafting complex and multi-dimensional stories in the search for insight and meaning. 

Produced by Moody’s StoryLab, The Infinite Game is a narrative docu-series featuring cinematic visuals, real-world stories and engaging external contributors. The series tells the story of the endless ‘cat and mouse’ game playing out between financial criminals and those who try to stop them. Marked by ever-evolving tactics, relentless countermeasures and a constant drive to innovate and win, the series explores the hidden costs of financial crime, and the measures taken to thwart it. Told through interviews with financial crime experts and Moody’s specialists, the Infinite Game shows that compliance can never be a ‘set and forget’ activity, but that organizations can turn today’s risks into tomorrow’s wins.

Results

The Infinite Game series achieved more than 165K views across all platforms, 5x our benchmark on YouTube. The series has also won a number of awards, and was shortlisted for the Brand Storytelling showcase at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. The series has generated a lot of energy internally and has become a new benchmark in brand storytelling for the company. The team is working on the next docuseries in 2025.
