Indiana Fever

Objective

The primary objective of our behind-the-scenes 2024 WNBA Draft recap was to provide fans with an exclusive, insider look at our full draft process through the night of making Caitlin Clark the No. 1 overall pick.

In anticipation of this transformational pick, we took fans inside the coaches meetings leading up to the draft, the night of the draft and gave fans access to Caitlin’s first exclusive sitdown interview after arriving in Indiana.

We wanted to create a compelling story that gave fans a chance to immediately connect with our newest player and start building that relationship.

Strategy

After earning the No. 1 pick for the 2024 Draft during the WNBA Draft Lottery in December, we immediately set a plan into action of the type of story we wanted to tell surrounding draft night. We wanted this piece to give fans every inside angle at what goes into draft night, everything that happens at the draft and every moment of Caitlin’s welcome to Indiana.

There had been so much said and written about Caitlin Clark during her Iowa career, but we really wanted this piece and this first video of her as a Fever player to help humanize her and build a connection between our fans and our new franchise player.

We met with the front office to explain our vision and get buy-in to be granted access to the pre-draft meetings, we pushed the WNBA to allow us to have two content capturers at the draft, when they were limiting teams to one each, and we had a full staff back in Indiana ready to capture and edit over the course of the draft & welcome that allowed us to have huge success with this behind-the-scenes video.

Results

Fans were ecstatic about the access provided in our behind-the-scenes 2024 WNBA Draft recap.

In just this one video posted across social platforms, we garnered more than 1.2M video views, 84K engagements & provided $14K worth of value for our partner.

By providing an intimate look at the whole process we were able to generate a stronger emotional connection between our growing fanbase and our new franchise player. It was a huge tipping off point for what was a transformational Fever season.
