The intimacy of chamber music played by great artists in an acoustically perfect hall. What could be better? It captivates musicians and audiences alike. That is why the world's finest artists have been coming to Buffalo to play on our series for eight decades.

Our season opens with a performance by the 2006 Grammy Award winners for Best Crossover album - The Turtle Island String Quartet and the Ying Quartet. Their program will include not only traditional string quartet literature but several pieces form their winning album including Darius Milhaud's La Creation du monde.

All concerts will be performed in Kleinhans Music Hall's Mary Seaton Room on Tuesdays at 8pm.

Gift to the Community Recitals are held on Sundays at 3pm and are free.

2007-2008 Season:

The Turtle Island String Quartet and the Ying Quartet

The Turtle Island String Quartet and the Ying Quartet were the 2006 Grammy Award winners for Best Classical Crossover album. Their program will include not only traditional string quartet literature but several pieces from their winning album including Darius Milhaud's La creation du monde.

Zehetmair Quartet

Unique in the world of chamber music as they play all their programs without music, the Zehetmair captured the 2006 Gramophone Magazine Record of the Year Award with their CD of Schumann's 1st and 3rd string quartets. Their performance will include quartets by Mozart, Hindemith and Schumann.

Claremont Trio
December 4, 2007
The Claremont Trio returns to Buffalo after a 2004 appearance on our Gift to the Community series. Since then, their career has skyrocketed, winning the first Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Award. Their program will include trios by Schumann, Frank Martin and Beethoven.

St. Lawrence String Quartet
January 22, 2008
Among the world-class chamber ensembles of its generation, the St. Lawrence String Quartet makes their third appearance on our series. Ensemble-in-Residence at Stanford University, the Quartet's recent tours of Europe, Australia and New Zealand have delighted audiences. Their performance will include quartets by Dvorak, Berg and a performance of the Mozart Clarinet Quintet with clarinetist Todd Palmer.

Musicians From Marlboro

The Musicians From Marlboro perform as part of an annual event on the series, made possible by a generous grant from the Peter and Joan Andrews Foundation. The seven performers (two violins, 2 violas, cello, piano and mezzo-soprano) will present a program including Beethoven's Folk Songs, Bartok's String Quartet No. 4 and Mozart's String Quintet, K. 593.

Aviv Quartet

Founded in 1997 by four young Israeli musicians, the Aviv Quartet has captured almost every major string quartet awrd. Their program will include quartets by Beethoven, Yuri Brener and Tchaikovsky.

Pavel Haas Quartet
April 22, 2008
Since winning the Paolo Borciani competition in Italy in 2005, the Pavel Haas Quartet have quickly become known to audiences, critics and promoters around the world as one of today's most exciting young string quartets. Based in Prague, the Quartet take their name from the Czech composer Paval Haas (1899-1944) who was tragically deported in 1941 and died three years later. Their program will include quartets by Haydn, Prokofiev and Smetana.

Gift to the Community Concerts

Throughout the season, the Buffalo Chamber Music Society will present the annual Gift to the Community concerts, a series of 3 performances by award-winning young musicians.

Performances:
The series of 7 concerts are all at 8pm and are preceded by a "Chat with the Artists" hosted by WNED's Peter Hall at 7:15pm.

The Gift to the Community concerts are free and held on Sundays at 3pm.

Admission:
Season subscription - Adult $95, Student $40. All subscribers enjoy a gala opening night reception and pre-concert talks with the artists.
Single Tickets - $20 general admission, $10 student
