Boardroom: Headline To Go

Finalist in Email & Newsletter

Objective

Co-founded by Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman, Boardroom is a premier media brand covering the business of sports and entertainment through premium content creation and storytelling, events and experiences, and access to an elite network of athletes, entertainers, and entrepreneurs who are changing the game. In 2024, Boardroom sought out to expand and refine its content offerings, experiential strategy, and partnership marketing efforts to create a cohesive ecosystem that caters to fans, athletes, executives, and brands alike. In a growing media landscape, Boardroom further positioned itself as a premium partner while also continuing to elevate its content creation and audience growth.

At the forefront of industry change, Boardroom aims to offer unique and honest perspectives on the business of sports and entertainment through premium coverage. Their strategy lies in their top-notch storytelling, cutting-edge experiential, and unmatched access to talent. The goal of Headline To Go is to provide a direct daily touchpoint with Boardroom’s audience. Boardroom engages with readers who look to them to curate the most impactful sports,  music, and entertainment business news. They aim to deliver bite-size stories, easily viewable on both mobile and desktop, that give a quick look at everything the Boardroom audience “needs to know” at the end of every weekday. The newsletter delivers real value to a consumer-facing audience, to the athletes, artists, and executives who read and are covered, and to brand partners.

Strategy

Boardroom launched the Headline To Go newsletter in 2022 in order to capture industry-leading news, trends, and need-to-know information for business leaders in an at-a-glance, easy to digest format.

While Headline To Go is just one of the incisive newsletters Boardroom provides to both industry leaders and fans alike, it’s the company’s flagship and most recognized among peers. Authored by reporter and digital creator Vinciane Ngomsi, Headline To Go offers a morning rundown of the day’s biggest business news across sports, entertainment, tech, and the key players in the industry Mondays through Saturdays. Select Headline ToGo content is also brought to life across Boardroom’s social channels.

With an oversaturated media market and a constant flow of content, Boardroom faces the natural challenge of giving their audiences something they can’t find anywhere else. The team taps into its extensive experience at the intersection of sports, business, music, tech and culture – particularly that of Boardroom CEO Rich Kleiman – to give their audience truly unique perspectives while also ensuring significant value for their partners. Furthermore, Boardroom covers a lot of ground. While connectivity between its areas of business could have been a challenge, they manage to consistently connect their sports properties, brand partners, outlets, and initiatives in a way that creates significant impact. Their coverage and reporting benefits greatly from this connectivity, which is especially evident in Headline To Go.

Results

Boardroom’s newsletters reached a cumulative of 200,000 subscribers in the past year, with an average open rate of 47%, with Headline To Go largely driving their growth. The newsletter has helped solidify Boardroom’s reputation as the go-to fan-favorite for premium and unique content while demonstrating their unmatched storytelling and marketing prowess, attracting attention from a wide range of readers and advertisers alike.

This past year, Headline To Go was selected as a finalist for the Best Newsletter in the Digiday Media Awards and was a Webby Award honoree in the Websites and Mobile Sites category.
