Objective

Gen Z’s attention span is shorter than ever, yet their demand for captivating stories remains high. 60 Second Docs was created to meet this challenge—delivering impactful documentary-style content in 60 seconds. Our goal was to push our storytellers to hook, educate, and inspire audiences quickly while fitting into their digital habits. The aim was to craft fast, engaging, and thought-provoking content that leaves viewers feeling inspired and curious.

 

Strategy

Many young adults treat vertical videos on social media like TV—endlessly scrolling, hoping to come across something that makes them feel something. We recognized the need for a format that combines documentary depth with short-form efficiency. To address this, we challenged our global network of over 6,000 Gen Z Storytellers in 20 countries to create emotionally resonant stories within just 60 seconds. 

Traditional documentaries unfold gradually, while our format demands an immediate emotional connection. Each 60 Second Doc is designed to maximize impact within its time constraints. Our approach includes:

For this submission, we’re highlighting the story of Passinho, a Brazilian dance movement originating in the favelas, showcasing its cultural significance and the resilience of its community. The documentary features Vitória (Destemida IDD), a leading Passinho dancer who is reclaiming space in a male-dominated scene. By using this vibrant art form, Vitória empowers women and creates a sense of belonging and representation. Passinho for Vitória is not just dance, it’s a movement that fosters connection, expression, and community. This personal connection infuses the documentary with emotional depth that resonates with viewers.

What sets 60 Second Docs apart is its ability to turn micro-documentaries into cultural moments—delivering powerful storytelling in a format designed for digital-first audiences. By meeting Gen Z where they are, we've transformed short-form documentary storytelling into an engaging, enlightening art form.

 

Results

The 60 Second Doc showcasing Passinho has reached over 20,000 plays and 13.6K accounts globally, but its true impact goes far beyond these figures. Through powerful storytelling, the video taps into the heart of contemporary culture, sparking meaningful dialogue and emotional connection with a diverse audience. Its ability to address universal themes while honoring cultural authenticity positions it not only as a viral success but also as a catalyst for ongoing engagement. Early feedback highlights how the narrative resonates deeply with viewers, creating a ripple effect that extends beyond initial views. This documentary is poised to continue its upward trajectory, solidifying its place as an influential piece that doesn’t just capture attention—it leaves a lasting, transformative impression. With its continued relevance, the video promises to be an enduring piece of content that drives both cultural conversation and brand growth for months to come.
